When To Call An Emergency Dentist

Chipped, Cracked, Or Broken Teeth

A chipped or broken tooth can be painful, embarrassing, and difficult to ignore. Some chips are minor, while deeper cracks or fractures may affect the inner structure of the tooth. The sooner we evaluate the damage, the better we can determine whether the tooth can be repaired and protected.

Treatment may include smoothing a rough edge, bonding, a filling, a crown, or another restorative option. If the tooth is badly damaged, Dr. Liesen will explain your options and help you decide on the best next step.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out permanent tooth is a time-sensitive dental emergency. If possible, gently pick up the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it gently with water, but do not scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket if you can do so safely. If not, keep it moist in milk or saliva and call our office right away.

Quick action can improve the chances of saving the tooth, so do not wait to seek help.

Broken Crowns, Fillings, Or Restorations

A broken or loose crown, filling, bridge, or other dental restoration can expose the tooth underneath and make it more vulnerable to sensitivity, pain, decay, or further damage. Even if it does not hurt right away, it is best to have the area checked.
